103  Detachment

Royal Regiment of Fusiliers

Beating Retreat with the 2nd RRF at the Cavalry Barracks Hounslow

103 have built up a close working relationship with the 2nd Battalion Corps of Drums lead by Drum Major Foy. 103 spent a weekend at the Hounslow Cavalry Barracks commentating in a combined Beat & Retreat with the Second Battalion.

With all the participants taking part in their No.1 dress and the professionalism of the cadets, it was sometimes hard to see who was cadet or regular during the parade.

Drum Major Foy was quoted in saying that 103 Corps of Drums had impressed him every time he had seen them play and in his opinion they were as good as some regular Corps of Drums and he was proud to see how professional they were on parade.

City Hall – Cadet 150 celebrations

103 provided the Cadet Contingent at a drinks evening with all the cadet instructors, hosted by the Mayor of London.

103 Corps of Drums our 2010

The Corps of Drums have had a busy 2010 having been selected to carry out a number of events in our 150th anniversary year of the Cadet Forces.

The cadet 150 events have happened all around the country with focus on the main London celebration leading up to the main parade down The Mall and then in for a garden party at Buckingham Palace.

Buckingham Palace – Guard Mount

103 were invited by the 2nd Battalion to watch a guard mount and were proud to march out from the guard room at the Buckingham Palace detachment and take up the best position in the house to watch the famous Guard Mount.

Guild Hall – Cadet 150 Celebrations

The Guilds Hall event was for all the adult instructors through the army cadets to thank them for all their hard work with the young cadets. The event was hosted by his Royal Highness Duke of Edinburgh, our patron.

Constable Dues Tower of London

After our success of last year’s Constable Dues of the US Navy, the Chief Yeoman Warder invited 103 to participate in this rarely seen ceremony at our regimental head quarters, The Tower of London. This year a French naval ship called Latouche-Trouville took part, with 103 leading the parade. 103 took this opportunity to give the public a free demonstration of their amazing skills as Corps of Drums with a static display. The audience showed their appreciation by giving an amazing round of applause in front of the famous White tower.

The Mall, Buckingham Palace – Cadet 150 celebrations

As part of the 150th anniversary celebrations, members of the 103 Corps of Drums were selected to be part of the combined Corps of Drums for the Army Cadet Force. In total eight members of 103 were part of the fifty strong combined Corps of Drums. However, the cadet leading the Corps of Drums was Cadet Drum Major McNally from 103.

Channel 4 5 o’clock Show with Vernon Kay

The Corps of Drums were asked to participate in this prestigious event of part of Vernon Kay’s week long run on the 5 o’clock show on Channel 4.

Twelve members of the Corps of Drums were centre stage for ten minutes on this national TV event playing The Great Escape, showing how calm and collected they can be under the pressure of TV cameras and lights.

Summary

In summary it has been a proud few months as we have been selected above others to participate or lead in some of the most important events in the cadet force history. Not bad for a Corps of Drums that was started in November 2007.

Many Senior members The Corps of Drums will be leaving in the next six months to join regular forces and we are sure that they will keep up their musical skills.
