Royal Regiment of Fusiliers

The ACF is a youth organisation which is supported by the Army.  Cadets do not have to join the Regular Army, but they will come into contact with regular soldiers during their ACF career.

Army Proficiency Syllabus

The ACF has a system of Star badges which are awarded for each stage of training. You will be trained and tested regularly to progress through the ACF system with promotion through the ranks from a Lance Corporal to Regimental Sergeant Major.

First Aid is now an important part of the ACF training. You could become qualified in first Aid within your first year as a cadet.

Signals Training (Training with Radios) is a more specialist part of ACF training. Cadets can gain qualification in basic and advance radio operation.

Walking and Navigation is an integral part of the ACF syllabus, each cadet is trained in how to read a map and will be expected to be able to navigate their way, day or night.

Fieldcraft training. This is the simulation of battle exercises which will involve blank ammunition. Once trained you will take part in realistic exercises to simulate real life battle situations.

BTEC. CVQO Cadets who are aged 16 and have completed their 4 star are able to gain a BTEC level 2, which is equivalent to 4 GCSEs grade A-C.  Not bad for a hobby!

Duke of Edinburgh's Award . All ACF training is now conducted fully in-line with the DofE training and therefore cadets prgressing through the ACF system can gain Dof E awards. reer.

Music in the ACF. The ACF has a full music programme for all cadets. 103 has its own Corps of drums with over 20 members. You can learn the side drum, base drum, the flute or Bugle as well as ceremonial marching drill.

Supervised live shooting is part of the ACF training.

After a period of training and testing you will be able to shoot various types of rifles.

What does it cost?

It costs £20 administration fee to join and £1 per parade night as subscription fee. Once you join you are issued with full uniform , apart from boots which you will need to buy.
